Read tips written by our young members for Anti Bullying Week
During Anti-Bullying Week (16th – 20th November) schools and youth organisations across the country ran activities to raise awareness of the problem and demonstrate that bullying will not be tolerated.
One of the things we did for Anti Bullying Week was to run series of workshops for over 60 peer mediators at Norwood School in Lambeth. The workshops were designed to refresh mediation skills, motivate the mediators and for more experienced mediators to explore how they can use their mediation skills with friends and family. Delivered by two young Trainers as part of Leap’s Anti-Bullying Week work, the workshops helped mediators from all year groups develop their skills so they can tackle issues around bullying in the school themselves and stop these issues escalating.
Some of our young people also came up the following useful tips which were published daily during Anti Bullying Week.
‘Don’t suffer alone, talk to someone that might be able to help.’
Kevin, London
‘The most difficult thing in any conflict, almost, is making sure that you strip it of the emotion and deal with the facts.’
Ben, 20, Leap Young Trainer.
‘Before a conflict starts or escalates identify and agree on what the real problem is; only then the true resolution can be achieved.’
Kim, London, Leap Quarrel Shop (conflict resolution training) Graduate
‘Conflict will always be there but the outcome/response is always your choice.’
Young PeerLink member, Yorkshire
