Peer Power! in London

Thursday 5th November 2009

Check out news about our recent event for mediators in London.

Training Workshop

Hello, I’m Natasha and I’m a PeerLink volunteer and member. My role includes going to meetings to plan PeerLink events, running conflict resolution and mediation workshops and helping to recruit young people to the network. I started off as a mediator in Year 8 and joined PeerLink when I was in Year 10, which was 3 years ago now.

Peer Power! was an event for young mediators from the following London Schools: Lammas School, George Mitchell School, Leytonstone School and Dagenham Park School. There were workshops and presentations to help young people develop and share their mediation skills. I really enjoyed these workshops as it was a great way to get to know everybody. I also learned a lot myself, like how to rephrase sentences to help solve conflict and how to deal with issues in everyday life through on the spot mediation. There were also fantastic presentations and films from Leytonstone and Lammas, showing the way they use mediation in their schools.

I was one of the main presenters at the event alongside my colleague Zainab. I really enjoyed hosting but was nervous speaking to so many people when I started off. As the day went on though I got more and more comfortable and we worked really well together as a team.

I really enjoyed this event and look forward to more events and facilitating more workshops in the future with PeerLink.
